Kalju Kivi is an Estonian film artist, screenwriter and director. He has graduated Estonian Art Institute as a fashion designer. After that went to work to Nukufilm as a director.  In 1995-2011 was a head artist of Estonian Puppet Theater.

Kivi is said to be one of the biggest experimenters in Estonian animation, especially in the choice of materials – he has moved glass, textiles, yarn and paper as well as ready-made graphic works. Music also plays an important role in his films, which is never just a background, but closely and accurately connects with the image and helps convey the story.
