The simple act of going to a café takes on a different meaning in Andres Sööt’s classic work of 1960s Estonian documentary cinema. Older ladies and young people become objects of study, as if being observed by creatures from another planet. Employing a hidden camera, director-cinematographer Sööt creates entertaining, contrasting views of Tallinn’s social life, set to music from The Beatles and Handel in combination with off-screen commentary (the poetry of Arthur Alliksaar) and the latest discoveries about Mars.
